Why it's worth checking out
Astra Lumina Gold Coast is an after-dark walking experience set within the bushland of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Rather than a daytime wildlife visit, it offers a separate night-time trail where lighting, projection, music and fog effects shape a 1.5-kilometre journey through the natural surroundings. The experience is self-paced and generally takes 60 to 90 minutes, with seating available along the way and restrooms at both the start and finish.
The walk follows a celestial theme, with illuminated elements and soundscapes designed to suggest stars descending from the night sky, gathering along the pathway and returning above. Its atmosphere changes as the trail progresses, moving through different zones of light and projection while keeping the surrounding Australian bushland part of the experience. The trail uses a mixture of sealed and unsealed surfaces and includes some slopes, so visitors should wear weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. Flickering or strobe lighting and fog effects are part of the experience.
Created by Moment Factory, the international entertainment studio behind the Lumina Night Walk series, Astra Lumina is described as the first permanent attraction of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. It is presented as an all-ages experience and suits families, couples, groups of friends and solo visitors looking for an evening activity in Currumbin. The setting offers a different way to experience the sanctuary after sunset, although Astra Lumina admission is separate from daytime entry to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
The venue is located at the sanctuary’s main entry on Tomewin Street, Currumbin, with free car parking and access by taxi, rideshare and bus. It generally operates on Friday and Saturday nights, with additional dates during school holidays; entry is scheduled after sunset and the final trail entry is at 8pm. A welcome area provides snacks and light refreshments before or after the walk. Visitors can also book the limited Koalas by Twilight upgrade on selected dates, which combines a close-up Koala Pat & Chat experience with an arrival drink and tasting platter. Astra Lumina is near Currumbin Beach and around 10 minutes from Gold Coast Airport.
