Why it's worth checking out
Doug Jennings Park sits on Sea World Drive at the northern end of The Spit at Main Beach, a breezy waterfront park on the narrow strip of land between the Broadwater and the ocean. With water on both sides and Sea World nearby, it's a popular, open green space with lovely coastal and Broadwater views.
The appeal is that combination of expansive open space, waterfront setting and easy access to the beach, the Broadwater and the surrounding Spit. It's a favourite for picnics, walks, kite surfing and watching the boats, with plenty of room to spread out — a relaxed, scenic spot away from the busier parts of the coast.
With a 4.6 rating from more than 2,600 reviews, it's a well-used and appreciated spot. The park is free and open year-round, but facilities, parking and conditions vary, and it can be exposed and windy on the narrow Spit, so it's worth checking the surrounds before a special trip — and taking sun protection, as shade can be limited — though for a casual picnic, walk or day by the water, you can generally just turn up and enjoy it.
