R T Peak Memorial Park is a hilltop coastal lookout in Coolangatta, also known as Kirra Hill. Its viewing platform takes in the beaches and headland, with sunrise and sunset described as particularly striking. From June to October, visitors may also spot whales from the shore.
The park combines open parkland with practical facilities for a relaxed outdoor visit, including picnic tables, a picnic shelter and barbecues. An ‘iron eagle’ sculpture adds a distinctive landmark to the setting. It suits a picnic, a quiet lookout stop or an informal gathering, with the park also available to book for social events, private functions and weddings.
Access is via a footpath from Marine Parade, which climbs the hill, or by driving up the steep Garrick Road to the small on-site car park. Dogs must be kept on a leash unless signage states otherwise, and they are not allowed in children’s playground areas. There are no public toilet facilities at the park.
