Why it's worth checking out

Sandbar Surfers Paradise is a beachfront pub and dining venue on The Esplanade, positioned under the Chateau Hotel with an unobstructed view of the sea. Its indoor-outdoor layout and large beach-facing outside area are central to the experience, whether you are stopping by for breakfast, settling in for lunch or dinner, or dropping in for a drink. The setting is casual and family-oriented, with beachy blue-and-white styling, floating fish lanterns and an ocean-inspired feel. It is also close to Lifeguard Tower 35, placing it directly in the middle of Surfers Paradise’s beachside activity.

The food offering runs throughout the day, moving from breakfast into lunch and dinner, with a separate light-bites period in the afternoon. The website highlights breakfast favourites such as Big Breakfast and Eggs Benedict, alongside lunch and dinner options including Chicken Parmi, Rump Steak and Fish & Chips. Sandbar also puts emphasis on gourmet burgers and poke bowls, while the more distinctive dishes listed include The Royale with Cheese, Smashed Minted Peas and Kale, Chilli Crab Scramble Eggs and Fairy Ricotta Hotcake. Drinks cover cocktails, wine, crisp ales and craft beers, with the venue describing its beer selection as the largest range on the Gold Coast.

The space is designed for lingering rather than a quick stop. Guests can sit outside facing the beach with a cocktail, beer or wine, while families have access to a kids games room. Dogs are welcome, making the venue suitable for a relaxed meal with the whole household. The broad all-day format also gives it flexibility: it can work for a morning coffee, a casual solo meal, a beachside catch-up, a family dinner or an easygoing date where the ocean view does much of the scene-setting. Sandbar also hosts private functions, offering alfresco packages for occasions ranging from intimate Surfers Paradise birthdays to larger Gold Coast corporate events.

Sandbar says it has been a meeting place for locals and visitors for more than 20 years and is one of Surfers Paradise’s longest-running beachside establishments. It began as a family-run business known for buffet breakfasts and chilli crab scrambled eggs, later changing hands before Hallmark Hospitality oversaw a facelift and added seating. The venue was acquired by Australian Venue Co. in June. Regular programming listed on the site includes Wednesday trivia, Saturday live music, weekday afternoon happy hour and other events and specials, while its beachfront position provides a front-row place to watch major Surfers Paradise events such as the Pacific Airshow, GC500, Seafire and the Gold Coast Marathon.

Spot Score

60

The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.1 from 3,484 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
