Why it's worth checking out
Thorn Park is a family-friendly waterfront park on Marine Parade in Miami, stretching for about one kilometre between Hythe Street and Chairlift Avenue East. It follows the Gold Coast Oceanway, with beach access, ocean views and plenty of space for walking, picnics and outdoor activities.
The park has barbecue and picnic facilities, including shelters and tables, as well as a playground set on sand soft-fall. Children can use the swings, bird's nest swing, spinner, spring rocker and slide. At the northern end, a small outdoor gym provides a spot for exercise with views across the ocean, while showers, toilets, drinking fountains and water taps add practical conveniences for longer visits.
Swimming is available at two patrolled areas on Miami Beach: opposite Hythe Street and at Miami Beach Surf Life Saving Club, with patrols operating year-round. A second listed patrol area opposite Santa Monica Road operates on weekends between September and April. Parking is available along Marine Parade, and accessible facilities include two disability parking spaces, an accessible toilet and connecting pathways through the park.
Thorn Park suits families, walkers, swimmers, casual exercisers and groups planning a barbecue or picnic. Dogs must be kept on a leash unless otherwise signposted and are not permitted in children's playground areas, so visitors with dogs should check the City of Gold Coast's designated off-leash areas.
