Why it's worth checking out
Southport Sharks is a large sport, leisure and entertainment precinct on the corner of Olsen and Musgrave avenues in Southport. For live music, the Lounge Bar is the key drawcard, with local performers featured every weekend alongside rolling taps and a broad selection of wines, spirits and cocktails. Mackenzie’s Sports Bar offers a different kind of atmosphere, with live sports broadcasts, an in-house TAB and a 5.25-square-metre screen, while the club’s football programme includes a VFL team and premiership-winning QAFLW seniors and reserves teams.
There is plenty of choice for eating and drinking across the site. Frenzy Food Court provides buffet and à la carte dining seven days a week in a family-friendly setting, including breakfast and dinner buffets. Aviary pairs handmade Italian-style pizzas and tapas dishes with Gold Coast views and cocktails in a rooftop setting. Kaktus Bar focuses on agave-inspired drinks, including margaritas, mezcal and tequila, while the café serves cabinet snacks, all-day dining and barista-made coffee. Box Coffee Co is suited to an early start, and Fins Cellar stocks drinks, snacks, travel toiletries and Southport Sharks merchandise.
The precinct is designed for more than a meal or a night out. Wobbygongs Kids Fun Zone includes a rock-climbing wall, mini basketball court, movie screenings and other activities, giving families an option for younger children while adults dine. The venue also promotes family events and kids’ entertainment, including a Sunday evening show with games, puppets and prizes. Members can access loyalty benefits through the ACCESS programme, with points earned on meals, games and swipes; some dining promotions are reserved for current members.
For groups, Sharks Events Centre offers dedicated event spaces, catering and audio-visual facilities, while Mantra at Sharks provides accommodation within the precinct. A health club adds gym access, group fitness classes and an infrared sauna. That range makes Southport Sharks suitable for a casual family meal, a drink and live local music, watching a game with friends, or a larger gathering. It is less a single-purpose music venue than an all-in-one Southport destination, with the Lounge Bar providing the clearest connection to live entertainment.
